Aibe

Aibė is a major supermarket chain based in Vilnius, Lithuania, operating since 1999. It is the largest alliance of independent trading companies in the Baltic States, uniting over 400 trading companies and managing more than 1,400 stores across Lithuania and Latvia. The chain primarily offers a wide range of food, drinks, and beauty products, serving as a significant presence in the Lithuanian retail market. 

The company provides its members—independent entrepreneurs—with marketing, IT, financial, and logistics support, facilitating competitive operation of their stores under the Aibė banner. The product assortment includes diverse grocery categories such as savoury and sweet groceries, chilled and fresh produce, frozen goods, dairy, drinks (including energy drinks, soft drinks, water), wine and spirits, personal care products like deodorants and shampoos, and household items including detergents and disinfectants. 

As of 2022, Aibė reported revenues of approximately €221 million, marking its position as the sixth largest retail chain in Lithuania. The firm employed around 84 to 99 people regionally, with roughly 1,400 sales points primarily consisting of supermarkets. The company’s business model integrates closely with independent retailers, emphasizing local entrepreneurship within the alliance framework.

Throughout its history, Aibė has expanded steadily, initially opening the first supermarkets in 1999 and later extending operations to Latvia. While principally focused on food, drink, and personal care products, Aibė has also diversified into areas including home building and repair stores.

Despite challenges, including accusations in 2023 regarding the sale of Russian and Belarusian products, Aibė remains a prominent player in Lithuania’s retail sector. Its operational approach combines consolidated purchasing power with independent store operation, catering to consumer needs across the Baltic region.
