Aldi Portugal
Established in 2006 by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht, Aldi Portugal is a chain of discount supermarkets. Its headquarters is based in Moita, Portugal. The company is a subsidiary of the family-owned German multinational company, Aldi Nord.
Currently, the business operates 111 stores across the country and it has a mobile application to make purchase easier and faster.
Aldi Portugal achieves an annual turnover of more than €205 million and employs around 2,500 people.
It is noteworthy that the firm won “The Best Store in Portugal” award in 2021 by Grand Consumo Magazine and Q&A.
Moreover, the retailer provides a wide assortment of products in the following categories:
- Chilled & fresh food: meat, seafood, ready meals, etc.
- Frozen: sausages, waffles, bacon, etc.
- Sweet grocery: chocolates, sugar, cereal bars, etc.
- Savoury grocery: rice, pasta, pulses, etc.

Brands such as Fairy, Persil, Carlsberg, Haribo, Pringles and many others are endorsed by the firm. Aldi Portugal offers a range of vegan and organic foods as well.
The supermarket offers a range of products in its own brands known as (non-exhaustive list):
- Treasures of the sea: A line dedicated to seafood items.
- Mucci: This brand is composed of different flavours of ice creams.
- Gut Bio: A line of bio products such as oat flakes, rice drinks, yoghurts, etc.
- Moreno: A line dedicated to coffee capsules.
- Full-flavor: This brand includes products such as ham, bacon strips, chicken, etc.
Aldi Portugal maintains the highest quality standards as it is certified by ASC, MSC, UTZ, Fairtrade, V-label, Eu-Bio and many more.
Pertaining to its logistics solutions, the company operates its own distribution centres and has a fleet of vehicles to ensure deliveries. Moreover, in 2022, the enterprise opened a new distribution centre in Moita which is the largest in the country and one of the largest for the parent company. Having a total area of 57,000 square metres, Aldi Portugal is able to supply more than 100 shops efficiently.
In 2021, the firm partnered with Glovo, an on-demand startup delivery in Barcelona, in which customers can order their groceries via the Glovo app and their purchases are delivered within 30 minutes.
Currently, Aldi Portugal is investing €50 million in a new logistics centre in Santo Tirso which will have an area of 40,000 square metres. The facility will feature 80 loading and unloading docks for trucks and 200 parking spaces. The project is supposed to be completed by 2024.
The retailer announced that it will be opening 20 more supermarkets and creating an additional 450 jobs in 2022 and it is also planning to operate 200 stores by 2025.
Concerning sustainability, Aldi Portugal protects the environment by combating food waste through donations via various social solidarity institutions.
