Gate Group
Gate group is a catering service which has been established in the year 1992 by Swissair Catering and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. The firm provides its services in the aviation industry, serving 700 million passengers in 200 establishments across 60 countries.
In addition to catering services, Gate Group is also involved in the retail-on-board sector offering food, drinks and travel airline products. .
In the catering sector, Gate Group manages 2 airline catering companies:
- Gate Gourmet: Gate Gourmet offers airline catering services to various airline companies around the world.
- Servair: Gate Group acquired Servair in 2017. Servair provides catering services to over 100 airline companies.
Gate Group also manages Studio Culinaire which regroups over 400 chefs. Studio Culinaire devises recipes for both airline catering companies. The chefs also take into account the regional and local cuisines when devising new recipes.
In the retail-on-board sector, Gate Group operates the airline retailer, Gateretail, which provides an array of food, beverages and travel airline products to around 20 airline companies, thus catering for around 290 million passengers annually.
In 2020, Gate Group acquired LSG Group. Moreover, the enterprise now owns LSG Group’s European businesses that includes its airline catering operations, its convenience retail outlets as well as its train catering and lounge operations.
Gate Group also launched deSter, a provider of food packaging solutions for airlines, hospitality sector and the food service industry.
The firm developed its menus beyond the traditional tray, offering its customers full plate dishes and at the same time eliminating waste.
Gate Group also partnered with Black Swan to create Travel Retail Technologies which anticipates customer needs and trends which assists in providing the best quality products and services to its various clients.
In order to strengthen its presence in Germany, the company signed an agreement to buy the German company, SCK sky catering, in September 2018.
Gate Group achieved a turnover of €1.4 billion in 2020. The company employs 43 000 people. It is also recognised as one of the leading airline catering companies in the world.
Furthermore, in 2018, Gate Group launched a 25 000 m2 catering facility in the Republic of Korea through a thirty year partnership between Gate Gourmet and Asiana Airlines.
Gate Group is also a founding member of ACA (Airline Catering Association) which regroups all the leading airline catering companies.
Additionally, Gate Group has also taken various initiatives for the protection of the environment and reduction of waste.
