Established by 19 year-old Benjamin Greene in 1799, Greene King is a foodservice company which operates pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK. Its headquarters is based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. The company is owned by a property developer company, CK Asset Holdings.  

Furthermore, the foodservice company split its business into 3 parts: Pub Company, Pub Partners and Brewing & Brands. 

Presently, the business operates over 3,100 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland. Greene King runs its business under banners like Hungry Horse, Chef & Brewer, Farmhouse Inns, Greene King local pubs, etc. 

In addition, Greene King operates 2 breweries known as Westgate Brewery and Belhaven Brewery through which it supports 1,050 pub partners and licensees. Moreover, an e-commerce platform as well is at the disposal of its clients.   

In the financial year 2022, Greene King achieved a turnover of € 1.5 billion and currently employs around 40,000 people. 

It is noteworthy that the company won the award for “Best Diversity and Inclusion Initiative” by the CorpComms Awards in 2021.

Greene King offers a variety of products mainly in the Chilled & Fresh Food and Wine & Spirits Categories.

Pertaining to its logistics solutions, the business partnered with XPO Logistics, a leading global provider of transport and logistics solutions to expand its distribution and transportation network in 2020. 

Additionally, the pub retailer partnered with Too Good To Go to cut waste in its pubs in 2021. It is noteworthy that the firm launched its 9th Hive pub in 2022. 

Furthermore, in 2022, the firm bought the Ubiquitous Chip in order to further expand its business in Glasgow, Scotland. In the same year, Greene King announced that it returned to profitability amid expansion plans after being impacted by Covid-19. 

Concerning sustainability, reduces its impact on the environment by installing LED lighting retrofit at its distribution centres.
