Hofer Austria is a grocery chain which was established in 1968. Its headquarters is based in Sattledt, Austria. The company is a subsidiary of the German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chain, Aldi Sud. Hofer Austria has been named as the cheapest supermarket in the country by Austria’s consumer association Verein Fur Konsumenteninformation.
As of 2021, the retailer operates 520 stores across the country and an e-commerce platform as well.
In the financial year 2019, Hofer Austria achieved a turnover of € 4.2 billions and currently employs more than 12,000 people.
It is noteworthy that the company has been ranked in 3rd place in the Austrian retail top 100. Moreover, in 2020, Hofer Austria won the “Best Recruiters” award in the retail industry and in 2021, it received the “International Packaging” award for sustainable fruit baskets.

It is noteworthy that in 2022, the retailer installed “one2zero” PV systems on 230 store roofs hence making a major contribution to Austria’s energy transition. Moreover, Hofer is recognized as the first Austrian retailer to be entirely CO2-neutral since 2016.
Additionally, as of 2022, the enterprise started using 100% rPET for beverage bottles in its own brand range which is made of recycled material.
Concerning sustainability, Hofer Austria is expanding its organic range and reducing the use of materials for private label packaging in order to protect the environment.
