The history of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) began in 1777 when William Bass founded the Bass Brewery in the UK.
In 2000, Bass sold its brewery and acquired Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation and Bristol Hotels & Resorts Inc. In 2001, the company started operating as Six Continents Plc. In 2003, the company separated its hotel business which was renamed as IHG.
IHG currently operates 5795 hotels across the globe and in 2018, the company achieved a turnover of €3.9 billion. The firm employs 7598 employees.
The business won several awards including the AON Global Best Employer for 2019. The group was ranked in the top 50 most influential hotel brands over 60 hotels belonging to the group were awarded at the Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards in 2018.

The group is also planning to expand by launching more hotels across the globe. In November 2019, it was announced that IHG would launch 2 hotels in the Grand Ho Tram Strip Resort Complex in Vietnam and a hotel under the Voco hotels banner in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The group also manages the IHG Foundation and sponsors other charities to support communities. Furthermore, the company creates many jobs in the hospitality sector and offers training though their IHG Academy.
