Founded in 2004 by Bakkavor and Teresa Hermanos, IPL is one of the largest importers of produce in the UK. Its headquarters is based in Normanton, United Kingdom. In 2009, IPL was purchased by Asda and became part of Walmart. 

IPL is in charge of sourcing products for Asda at a low cost. The products come from Australia, Kenya, South Africa, etc. Nevertheless, some of the products are locally sourced. Moreover, the business operates various offices around the globe. 

In the financial year 2020, the firm achieved a turnover of € 804 million and employed around 2,082 people. 

IPL offers a wide assortment of products in the following categories: 

• Sweet grocery: nuts, cereals, dried fruits, etc. 
• Wine & Spirits: a range of wines.
• Chilled & fresh: bacon, fruits, vegetables, etc.

Pertaining to its logistics solutions, the firm operates its own distribution centres and handles its own deliveries regularly.   

In February 2022, IPL partnered with Apeel which will introduce citrus fruits and avocados with plant-based protection in 150 Asda stores. This technology will help increase shelf life and minimise food waste. 

Concerning sustainability, the company is reducing its environmental impact by reducing its use of energy and water. Moreover, IPL is working towards reducing, reusing and recycling waste wherever possible.
