Founded in 1958 by Torvald Måkestad in Norway, Makestad started as a business for the delivery of apples and pears to Bergen and Oslo. Eventually, the company opened its first self-service store in Bergen.
Additionally, Makestad has its wholesale business, Måkestad Engros, which started in 2008 as a dry goods wholesaler in Oslo. The business is a member of grouping Servicegrossistene. This not only ensures geographical coverage throughout Norway but also provides the opportunity to handle national customers.
Måkestad group also owns the online business, Engrosnett, which is a full-range wholesaler specialising in delivery to both private customers, kindergartens and corporate customers. The company offers over 15,000 product lines.
Moreover, the firm achieves an annual turnover of around € 108 million.
In 2020, Makestad won the "Food Rescue Award" from the Q dairies as well as "Food Savior of the Year 2020".
