Melia Hotels is a chain of hotels which first started operating in 1956 in Spain. Nowadays, Melia Hotels operates 391 hotels in 44 countries. Over 160 hotels are located in Spain. 

14% of the hotels are owned by the group itself. 39% of the hotels are managed by Melia Hotels under one of its brands but these hotels are owned by other companies. 14% are franchisees which can use the brand name and marketing strategies of the group. 33% of the hotels are leased and managed by Melia Hotels. 

Melia Hotels operates under the following banners:

• Gran Melia: a chain of hotels highly influenced by Spanish Culture

• Me by Melia: this hotel chain takes its inspiration from European design, architecture as well as cuisine

• Paradisus: a hotel chain with hotels in touristic destinations

• Innside by Media: a set of hotels with a modern lifestyle theme

• Sol by Melia: a chain of family-friendly hotels which are ideal of holidays

• Tryp: a chain of hotels mostly located in city centres

Melia Hotels achieved a total turnover of € 1554.2 million in 2018. The hotels owned by the group reached a turnover € 762.4 million. Melia Hotels employs 45 966 people. The Gross Asset Value of all the hotels is estimated to be around  € 3.7 billion. 

Melia Hotels was recognised as the 3rd most sustainable hotel chain in the world by RobecoSAM CSA. 

For 2018,  Melia Hotels launched 19 new hotels including 6 in Cuba, 1 in Maputo and 3 in Vietnam. 

Melia Hotels has also developed itself in the online sector as online reservations are key to its success. In fact, Melia Hotels has developed a reservation portal that focuses solely on hotel reservations for professionals.
