Established in 1878 by Robert Thorburn and Ellen, Pioneer Foodservice is a wholesaler of fresh and frozen foods mainly. Its headquarters is based in Carlisle, United Kingdom. The company is a member of the Caterforce Group in the Uk.  

Concerning its distribution channels, the business distributes its products to over 2,500 caterers from restaurants, hotels, pubs, schools, coffee shops and hospitals. Moreover, Pioneer Foodservice also operates 3 food stores and an e-commerce platform as well. 

In the financial year 2020, Pioneer Foodservice achieved a turnover of € 52 million and currently employs 394 people. 

It is noteworthy that the foodservice was awarded the title ‘North of England & Northern Ireland Family Business of the Year’ by the Family Business Awards in 2018. 

In addition, the enterprise offers a large variety of goods in the following categories:

Additionally, the business developed its own brands under the following names: 

• Chef’s Selections: A line of products such as desserts, oils, cocoa powder, etc. 
• Roast 440: A line of artisan coffees.  
• ProClean: A line of cleaning supplies. 

Moreover, Pioneer Foodservice maintains the highest quality standards as it is certified by BRC, FSA, STS and many more. 

Pertaining to its logistics solutions, the firm operates its own warehouse and a fleet of over 60 refrigerated vehicles is available to ensure deliveries. 

In addition, Pioneer Foodservice partnered with Seven Telematics to introduce the Cool Track remote monitoring system for its fleet of vehicles in order to monitor the temperature of the vehicles every 15 minutes.  

Furthermore, in 2019, the company organised a tasty food show which welcomed more than 600 customers including national and regional suppliers and customers. 

With regards to sustainability, Pioneer Foodservice reduces its impact on the environment by favouring local farmers and suppliers and at the same time boosting the local economy.
