Ryba Zilina

Ryba Zilina, spol. s r.o. is a Slovak importer and wholesale distributor of frozen and chilled food products, founded in 1992 and based in Žilina, Slovakia. Since 2013 the company has been part of the Preto Group, a Slovak group majority-owned by the Antošík family, which also controls production subsidiary PRETO Ryba (one of the largest producers of fish products and salads in Slovakia), logistics company Pretolog and frozen/chilled distribution company DC Nordia.

The company's core FMCG buying and distribution activity centres on frozen goods: frozen fish and seafood (including Alaskan cod sourced from the North Pacific), frozen vegetables, semi-finished products and frozen meat products, alongside chilled and fresh items such as fish and cold salads. A range of vegan products is also part of the assortment. Products are sold under several private labels, including Preto Ryba Žilina (fish products and fish salads), Preto (cold salads and spreads) and Radoma (frozen fish, soup, ice cream, mayonnaise and frozen vegetables).

Ryba Zilina supplies a broad client base across Slovakia spanning the HoReCa sector, traditional trade, and national and international retail chains, and also exports to the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. On the sourcing side, the company is continuously looking for new suppliers and brands across frozen food (desserts, ice cream, seafood, starters, fruits and vegetables, meat, ready meals), dairy (including eggs) and chilled/fresh ready meals, both for branded resale and for its own private labels.

Quality and food-safety are supported by BRC Global Standard for Food Safety (Issue 7) and ISO 9001 certification, and the company has worked to reduce additives and preservatives (including a reduction of sodium benzoate) in some of its cod products marketed under the Preto brand. The company's products have been recognised with the Slovak Superbrands Award in 2017 and 2018.

Financially, Ryba Zilina is a substantial player in the Slovak frozen-food wholesale sector, reporting turnover in the tens of millions of euros in recent years, reflecting its role as a key national importer and distributor supplying retail, wholesale and foodservice channels throughout Slovakia.
