Szega Foods is a Hungarian food importing, wholesaling, and retail company headquartered in Budapest with over 25 years of operational history. Founded in 1994 as a cheese store, the company expanded into wholesale operations in 1998 and has since established itself as a major distributor to Hungary's leading grocery retail chains.
The company operates across four primary divisions: Szega Retail, which includes a 500 m² premium gourmet supermarket in Budapest featuring an integrated mini bistro and bakery; Szega Trade, a wholesale and hypermarket operation serving major retailers including Tesco, Spar, Metro, Coop, Auchan, and Real; Szega Production, which operates a cheese processing facility in Diósd (established 2010) offering cheese slicing, dicing, and EU stamping services, and dairy production facilities in Kunszentmarton (operational since 2018); and Szega Export, managing distribution to partner companies across Croatia, Romania, and other regional markets.
Szega Foods represents over 150 international producers in Hungary, offering more than 3,000 product references across multiple categories including dairy products (cheeses, yogurts, butter), frozen foods, chilled and fresh products, sweet and savory groceries, and beverages. The portfolio includes established international brands such as Kerrygold, Biraghi, Entremont, and Valio, alongside private label products and the plant-based dairy alternative brand Vegart. The company sources products from approximately 15 European countries and has developed specialization in premium dairy products, particularly cheeses and cured meats.
The strategic acquisition of Multikon Export-Import Kft. in 2013, one of Hungary's oldest dry grocery enterprises, significantly expanded the company's product range and distribution capabilities. Szega's logistics infrastructure, established at a dedicated facility near Budapest in Diósd (2004), supports nationwide distribution of fresh, frozen, and ambient products, meeting the highest standards for grocery regulations.
