2015 Jacko's Shiraz
The Story: “Michael “Jacko” James worked in our cellars until he succumbed to a long battle with leukemia at the age of 26. His legendary character and courage left a lasting impression on everyone. Our tribute to him is this full bodied Shiraz which displays rich peppery fruit over a firm underlying structure with great length.” - Geoff Merrill
Vintage Information: One of the earliest vintages on record this year, with mild weather playing an important role for the region; rainfall was lower than average and with dry conditions from early August meant supplementary irrigation was vital.
With only a few sporadic hot days, the weather allowed natural acids with low pH levels to develop. Yields had fallen just below average, however this varied depending on variety. Overall 2015 was a successful vintage.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a strong ruby red with brick red hues. Subtle savoury meats come forward first on the aroma, then opening up to warm, ripe red berry fruits and spice. Fresh toasted oak notes complete this complex nose.
Initially the palate is fine and soft, then it builds into a well structured and full flavoured wine with time in the mouth. An abundance of silky tannins adds depth and longevity to the well defined red fruit flavours. This vintage will be a 'quiet achiever', surprising us all with how well it continues to develop into the future.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with rich smoked brisket, sticky pork ribs, lamb shanks, pizza and a beef and bacon pie.
