Joseph Castan Côtes du Rhône
The Côtes du Rhône terroir is made of cobbly terrains, rich in clay and limestone. The vines are steadily fed with water and receive at night the heat which was stored in the soils during the day. The low-gradient South-oriented slopes give good grape ripeness. After complete destemming, Syrah and Grenache varieties are vinified the traditional way with two-week maceration in a controlled-temperature environment. A small quantity of the Syrah variety is vinified through carbonic maceration in order to enhance the fruity potential. This is a deep, dark red wine with nice mauve reflections. The delicate nose successively releases blackberry, blueberry, blackcurrant and violets scents. After a fresh, pleasant attack on the palate, one's mouth is filled with roundness and texture. However, the tannins remain silky and provide a melted sensation which opens onto a fruity final persistence.
