THE PIGMENT

A combination of organic red pigments and plant-based alizarin derived from dyer's madder (Rubia tinctorum). In Ancient Egypt, renowned beauty Cleopatra used madder on her lips to enhance her natural charms. Fabric dyed with this pigment has been found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, amongst the ruins of Pompeii and in ancient Corinth. Alizarin is reputed for its extraordinary biological properties.
