MESSENICOLA PDO
MESSENICOLA PDO — 70% Black (Mavro) Messenikola, 30% Syrah and Carignan
This PDO wine is produced and bottled exclusively by the Karamitros family winery and presented in a distinctive embossed square bottle, created as a continuation of the story of the Crusades and Monsieur Nicolas.
Its medieval references are matched by the refined wine within: a blend of 70% Mavro Messenikola and 30% Syrah and Carignan.
Mavro Messenikola is an elegant and proud indigenous variety that refuses to thrive outside the terroir of Lake Plastira.
With the support of the other two varieties, the blend balances into a distinctive of its noble origin character wine.
The nose is delicate, with small forest fruits, red and black berries and, above all, pronounced floral expression. Wild woodland flowers, pansies, lavender and violets become increasingly evident with bottle age.
The oak is beautifully integrated, contributing intense spice and pepper notes. The palate is medium-bodied yet juicy, fresh and well structured, with pronounced, silky tannins that call for richer food pairings and support a multidimensional evolution over time.
The wine has the capacity to age in bottle for up to 25 years.
A long finish confirms its quality and depth.
