2019 Pimpala Road Chardonnay
The Story: “Our fun little on-premise exclusive label, Pimpala Road is the location of our home, the historic Mount Hurtle winery.” - Geoff Merrill
Vintage Information: Very little rain during winter and spring affected the deep down soil moisture, important for fruit development later in the season. Generally the crops were reduced over the whole of South Australia with a great variation in reductions experienced due to the diversity of the regions and grower experience.
Once into the ripening phase, the weather was generally optimum for ripening with only brief extremes being experiences. These however were more damaging where canopy growth was reduced due to lower soil moisture. The main positive is the flavour concentration and depth of colour, which in most varieties is absolutely outstanding making 2019 a vintage to remember.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a light straw with fresh green hues. The aroma is light and fresh, showing nectarine, lime, apple, rockmelon and fresh cut straw notes.
The palate is zesty, vibrant and flavoursome, filled with stone fruits, gooseberry and finishing on a clean citrus note.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with ceasar salad, oily fish, roast turkey, and mushroom risotto.
