2017 Pimpala Road Shiraz
The Story: “Our fun little on-premise exclusive label, Pimpala Road is the location of our home, the historic Mount Hurtle winery.” - Geoff Merrill
Vintage Information: After a delayed start due to the rain, vintage finally got underway albeit a long and drawn out one. South Australia experienced above average winter rainfalls, which helped to set up early growth of the vines. Spring was cool, and again rainfall was above average. The cooler air and soil temperatures slowed down vine development causing bud burst and grapevine flowering to be later than previous years.
A dry February and March allowed the fruit to reach ripeness with conditionsbeing ideal. Harvest dates were at least a month later than we have experienced for several years. Our crop yields were high for whites and reds, with bothlooking outstanding with excellent flavour.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a youthful dark red with good depth. The aroma displays vibrant red berry fruits, spice, soy and some savoury meats.
The palate is initially full of bright fresh fruits which slowly warm and make way for darker flavours and chocolate tannins. Good acidity on the finish completes this seriously great value wine by providing structure and versatility with food.
Food Pairing: “Enjoy with BBQ lamb loin chops, roast beef and gravy, Thai basil beef andthick Italian sausages.”
