Potassium is an essential mineral which assures several vital functions in the organism. Like sodium and chlorine, it is an electrolyte. In the organism, potassium acts in collaboration with sodium to maintain the body and fluids acid-base balance. It controls fluids level and the pH inside cells.

Potassium is essential in nervous transmission and also to muscular contraction. Potassium takes part in the correct functioning of kidneys and suprarenal glands. Finally, it contributes to many enzymatic reactions, to proteins synthesis and to the metabolism of carbohydrates.
