Barley was one of the first grains that people began to cultivate in Africa and Asia more than 10,000 years ago. It was the main cereal crop grown in ancient Greece and remained so for thousands of years. Barley was eventually replaced by wheat. Due to its high gluten content, it is a popular grain in sourdough bread. Today, barley is grown for malt, a key ingredient in beer and whiskey, and as fodder. In recent years, barley grass juice has become very popular due to its detoxifying properties. Also, as a superfood. It is an excellent source of dietary plant fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
