Lemon Calamansi classified as one of the most potent antioxidants in nine Citrus varieties. It may be attributed to the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids in the peel. Lemon Calamansi contains a large quantity of 30, 50 -di-C-b-glucopyranosylphloretin (DGPP) in its peel, juice sac, and leaves. The flavonoid composition is quite different from another Citrus. Two compounds, hesperidin and naringin were determined as the major active components responsible for the antioxidant activity. Ethyl acetate extract exhibited a high inhibitory effect. Lemon calamansi in rich in Vitamin C and certain antioxidants, as well as in nutrition such as potassium, calciuma and vitamin A. It contains three polymethoxyflavones, namely, nobiletin, tangeretin,and 5- hydroxy-6,7,8,30,40-pentamethoxyflavone that found in lemon calamansi were found to significantly inhibit the hepatitis B virus surface antigen. Flavonoids in calamondin have been recognized, which DGPP, hesperidin, and neohesperidin are the major phenolic compounds, thus, some certain bioactivity of lemon calamansi are reasonable.
