Founded in 1986 by Louis Noe Fernandez, Alimerka is a supermarket chain which has more than 180,000 customers visiting daily. Its headquarters is based in Asturias, Spain. The company provides top quality products and specialises in Fresh Food. 

Presently, the firm operates 168 stores across the country and an ecommerce platform as well. 

In the financial year 2020, Alimerka achieved a turnover of € 706 million and currently employs 6,473 people. The enterprise recorded an increase of 10% in its revenue in 2020 as compared to the previous year. 

It is noteworthy that the enterprise gained recognition through the “Lean & Green” Award by AECOC in 2019. 

Furthermore, the company offers a wide assortment of products in the following categories: 

• Savoury Grocery: canned food, pastas, rice, etc.
• Sweet Grocery: tea, cereals, chocolate, etc.
• Wine & spirits: wine, spirits, beer, etc.
• Drinks: juices, water, soft drinks, etc.

Alimerka also offers bio products for consumers with specific food needs. 

Moreover, the retailer developed its own brand under the name “Alimerka” which encompasses almost all product categories. 

Pertaining to its logistics solutions, Alimerka operates its own distribution centre and has a fleet of electric vehicles to manage its deliveries. 

With regards to the community, in 2021, the Alimerka Foundation collaborated with its “Together with them” project for the social and labour insertion of migrants and refugees. 

Concerning sustainability, the firm reduces its carbon emissions by reducing the use of plastic and promoting organic eggs in its range. 

Additionally, in 2019, the retailer joined forces with StrongPoint, a leading e-commerce technology provider, to expand its business with click & collect service. 

Furthermore, in 2020, Alimerka partnered with Cimcorp to automate the distribution of its fresh produce. 

The firm introduced its first fully electric 26-tonne truck in partnership with the Man eTGM in 2021.
