Bónus opened its first store in a 400 square metre building at Skútuvog, Iceland on Saturday, April 8, 1989. Bónus is a retail chain of low-price grocery stores and it is owned by Hagar. Its headquarters is found in 3 Skútuvogi, Reykjavík,104, Iceland.

Today, Bónus operates 31 stores across the country, 18 of which are in the capital area and 13 in the larger towns around Iceland

More than 800 employees work at Bónus and its revenue amounts up to €5 million.

Bónus has over 3,000 product numbers in its stores and offers a variety of products in different categories: 

• Sweet Grocery: Sweets, chocolate, chewing gums, etc.
• Savory Grocery: Flour, bread, pasta ,etc.
• Chilled and Fresh: Fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh fruits etc
• Frozen: Frozen vegetables, frozen pizza, frozen burgers etc
• Drinks: Fizzy drinks, juice, water etc
• Dairy: Cheese, butter, milk etc
• Personal care: Facewash, shower gel, shampoo etc
• Household: Kitchen towels, kitchen plates, detergents etc
• Wine and spirits: Beer, ciders etc

The retail company also provides special products such as a wide selection of high-quality food products from organic farming: Beyond meat, anamma, tofurky, as well as the Nordic brand Semper which is mainly focused on gluten-free products. 

Private brand label products under Bónus brand are also available to customers such as apple juice, white sliced bread, cocktail sauce for fries, etc.
