Ernesto Morgado
Ernesto Morgado (est. 1920) is the oldest rice miller in Portugal and continues to be a family-owned company, with a 4-generation knowledge of the rice business.
It is located in the Mondego valley, an excellent area for producing Carolino rice (Japonica rice variety).
It has been completely transformed through a RDI project involving world class scientific and technological research to answer market demands and enhance the value of a portuguese resource, Mondego Carolino rice. Today it is proud to be probably the only company in the world using Japonica rice and not parboiled for sterilised meals.
Able to produce up to 40,000 tons/year of milled rice, is one of the main portuguese players. Abroad it is gradually conquering markets in Europe and Middle East.
The company has an International Food Standard (IFS) certification.
