Grupo Bimbo
Founded in 1945 by Don Lorenzo Servitje, Jaime Jorba, Jaime Sendra, Alfonso Velasco and José T. Mata, Grupo Bimbo initially operated under the name Panificación Bimbo. The products first marketed by the company were cellophane-wrapped large and small white loaf bread, rye bread and toast bread. The company currently operates in 33 countries throughout Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, producing more than 13,000 products under more than 100 prestigious brands. Additionally, it has around 202 plants and more than 2.8 million points of sale.
In 1949, Grupo Bimbo opened its first Puebla depot outside Mexico city. Continuing its expansion, in 1956, the Bimbo Occidente bakery opened in Guadalajara. Moreover, in 1960, Bimbo Del Norte was inaugurated in Nuevo León. The business installed Latin America’s largest bakery in Mexico City in 1972. Starting its expansion across the globe, In 1986, the firm began exporting its products to America. Several business acquisitions were made by the group, such as Coronado, a company dealing with the production of goat milk caramel products, Mrs Baird’s, a north-American bakery, Plus Vita and Pullman, a multi-vitamins business.
With around 133,407 employees, the business achieved an annual turnover of € 13610 million.

The company produces many products unders its private labels. For example, keik, which was later renamed to Marinela, specialises in flavour cakes. Furthermore, Gansito, another private label of the company, specialises in chocolate coated cakes, which were sold in individual packaging as from 1958. The Suandy brand deals with the production of pound cakes, cookies, etc, manufactured under the banners Pastisetas, Biscotel, and many more.
In 2012, Grupo Bimbo introduced the largest and most important conversion to renewable industry initiated by a food industry company by inaugurating the Piedra Larga wind farm which supplies green electric power to a huge majority of its facilities across Mexico. Furthermore, in 2013, the Green Sales Center was introduced by the firm in order to reduce the environmental impact brought by its operations, and thus mitigating climate change repercussions.
