Heron foods is a retailer and was established in 1979 in the UK by the Grindell family. The retail chain was acquired by B&M Retail in 2017.  Heron Foods operates 296 stores in the UK .

In 2019 Heron Foods achieved a turnover of € 411.8 million, indicating a rise of 15.8%. There are over 3500 persons who are employed by the company. 

Heron Foods offers products in the following categories:

• Frozen Food: ice-cream, ready-meal, snacks, etc.
• Chilled and Fresh Food: a variety of chilled and fresh foods
• Drinks: items such as juice and energy drinks.
• Savoury Grocery: chips, crisps and other savory products
• Sweet Grocery: chocolate, breakfast cereals, biscuits, etc.

Heron Foods also offers dairy-free products.

Some of the brands provided include Carte D’Or, Alpro, Magnum, Pringles, Wagon Wheels, etc. 

Moreover, there are also products sold under its private label, Heron Foods. 

Heron Foods has a supplier requirement checklist which is used to select which suppliers to work with. Suppliers must meet various conditions which include (but not limited to):

• Products must be retail ready

• Delivery must be made on pallets

• The supplier must be able to supply 250 shops

• The supplier must hold the HACCP, SALSA and BRC certificates

Moreover, the enterprise has joined forces with Verilocation Tracking Solutions for its delivery fleet. Through Verilocation’s CCTV camera systems, Heron Foods gets access to the live feed of the traffic office. It is also able to monitor the temperature of every refrigerated vehicle hence ensuring the temperature points are maintained. The company operates a warehouse of 270000 sq.ft.  

Heron Foods supports various charities like Teenage Cancer Trust, Daisy Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support  and has raised money for them through different fundraising campaigns and events.
