Indigo Canada was founded by Heather Reisman in 1996 as a bookstore chain on the Canadian market. Its headquarters is based in Toronto, Canada. The company further expanded in personal care and household categories.  

As of October 2022, the business operated 87 superstores under the banners Chapters and Indigo and 84 small format stores under the banners Coles and Indigospirit. The company operates a store in the United States as well. Moreover, an e-commerce platform is at the disposal of its clients. 

In the financial year 2021, Indigo Canada reported a turnover of €728 million and currently employs more than 7,000 people. 

Furthermore, a vast range of goods is available under various categories such as (non-exhaustive list): 

• Household: candles and home fragrances. 
• Personal care: vitamins, deodorants, nail polish, etc. 
• Sweet grocery: chocolates, tea, jams, etc. 

Brands such as Om Organics, Butter London, Bushbalm, Flamingo Estate, Foreo, Balzac's coffee roasters, Georgian chocolate, Aurora and many others are endorsed by the firm. 

The retailer developed its own labels known as “Indigo” and “Indigo Kids” which includes products such as mugs, markers set, teddy bears, etc. 

Pertaining to its logistics features, Indigo Canada operates its own warehouse and partners with courier companies to manage its online deliveries.
