The dairy industry N. Th. Kouroushis Ltd was founded in 1959 in Vatyli, at Famagusta Province, by John Kouroushis as a family business in order to produce and supply milk and dairy products based on traditional taste, techniques of
production and quality of that time. Its first steps began with the manufacture of yoghurt and Airani. The distribution of these products was done on a motorbike to the nearby surrounding villages by him in person Mr. Kouroushis.
In 1960, Mr. Kouroushis went into partnership with a relative, the person who actually gave the site where the factory was constructed. They eventually built their new small factory which offered them the ability to increase the volume of business and as a result they became a more well known dairy industry, in the provinces of Kyrenia, Famagusta and Nicosia. The range of products was greater than before with the introduction of Halloumi and Anari. The dairy factory was employing at that time 7 people of whom only one was a distributor. After 7 months the partnership ended and Mr Kouroushis was again the person in charge.
n 1974, after the Turkish invasion and the loss of the factory the conditions for reactivation were extremely difficult. The industry had to be rebuilt from scratch once again, since they had to find space for its construction, the people for its operation but most important was to come across the economic resources which could support this project. However, the love and enthusiasm about this whole project lead to a small miracle.
The dairy industry was reactivated in Kofinou, a village of Larnaca, where it is still housed and located until today.
In 1978 the new dairy factory was back to work. The demands and activities grew more and more and as a result the staff of the company had to increase. The company at that time was processing around 4 tones of milk (cow, goat and sheep) each day for the production of halloumi cheese, yogurt, airani, anari, kefalotyri and fetta. The salespersons at that time were 4; one for each city, one of the salespersons was the son in law of Mr. Kouroushis, Mr Costakis Theophilou who is now the CEO of the company.
In 1989, the founder of the dairy Mr. John Kouroushis left the company and as a consequence the leadership of the company was completely given to Mr. Theophilou, who is the current CEO of the company.
In 2000, an active upgrade started in almost all the areas of production in order to meet the European infrastructure of the Building site achieving one way flow of processes thus maintaining the best Good Manufacturing and Hygiene practices required from the regulations of the European
Parliament and the Council. In the same year N.Th.Kouroushis Ltd received its first certification for the proper implementation of quality management systems: ISO900: 2000 and HACCP.
All the above established the Company’s liability to sell its products in countries which belong to the European market.
In 2004 a new chapter begins in the history of the company by creating the Research and Development Department. Since then, the company along with the production of traditional products and quality, is moving on to create new and innovative-functional products designed to meet the modern nutritional and healthy needs of consumers based always on the quality of the raw materials that would lead to premium final products.
