Leroy Merlin was founded in 1923 by Adolphe Leroy and his wife Rose Merlin in France. The business is involved in the sale of DOY, construction materials, household products, etc and offers more than 6000 references. Leroy Merlin is owned by Groupe Adeo. in 2017, Leroy Merlin controlled 34% of the market in France. 

Initially trading under the name Au Stock Americain, the company used to sell surplus from the US before diversifying. The business started operating under the banner Leroy Merlin in 1960.

By 1989, Leroy Merlin ventured on the international market by opening its first store in Spain. This was followed by further expansions in different countries, mainly by acquiring or partnering with other stores in several countries. 

Leroy Merlin now operates over 400 stores in 12 countries, including France, Spain, Poland, Italy, China, South Africa, etc. The firm also operates an online store. 

Leroy Merlin achieved a turnover of around € 15 billion in 2015 and currently employs over 100000 people.

• Household: cleaners, degreasers, disinfectants, etc.

• Personal Care: hand disinfectants and related products

Leroy Merlin distributes products from brands such as Impact Gloss, Sanytol, Starwax, Helvet, etc. 

Leroy Merlin also founded Leroy Merlin Source which is a research network focussing on habitation. Leroy Merlin Source has partnered with various universities and schools of architecture.
