Manor
Manor AG is Switzerland's largest department store chain, headquartered in Basel and owned by Maus Frères of Geneva. Operating nationally, it offers a wide range of products including fashion, beauty, home goods, lifestyle items, multimedia, household appliances, sports equipment, luggage, stationery, wine, and fine foods.
The company traces its origins to 1902 when brothers Ernest and Henri Maus, together with Léon Nordmann, opened their first department store in Lucerne under the name 'Léon Nordmann'. The 'Manor' name—a combination of Maus and Nordmann—emerged around 1965 with a new corporate identity. By 1994, all German-speaking Swiss stores bore the Manor name, extending to the rest of the country by September 2000. In 2000, Manor acquired Innovazione, Ticino's leading retailer, which now operates as Manor Sud SA.
Manor maintains a prominent presence in key Swiss cities such as Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, Locarno, Lugano, Lucerne, and Zürich, with additional locations across the country including Aarau, Affoltern am Albis, Ascona, and many others. The Manor Group comprises 59 Manor department stores, 27 Manor Food supermarkets, and 26 Manora restaurants, providing over a million products from approximately 2,800 suppliers worldwide, including 700 local producers for seasonal Manor Food offerings.
Focused on food, drinks, and beauty, Manor Food supermarkets emphasize fresh, seasonal products, while beauty departments feature premium anti-aging lines like the Enzian series with exosomes and collagen. The online shop at manor.ch complements physical stores with fashion highlights, lifestyle products, children's clothing, toys, and gourmet items such as wine and fine foods.
Manor employs around 10,200 people nationally, including 420 apprentices, and has invested in digital transformation through the OMNIA programme (2016-2020), modernizing ERP and POS systems with TCPOS software for omnichannel capabilities and seamless checkouts. Recent developments include planned closures of three department stores in Delsberg, Wohlen AG, and Sargans SG by Q1 2027 due to uneconomical renovations, affecting about 100 employees, alongside handing over the Manora restaurant in Haag SG to Coop. Manor plans to invest 200 million Swiss francs in other stores over the next three years.
A member of the International Association of Department Stores since 1968, Manor delivers quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction through prime urban locations, enhancing city vibrancy while serving diverse shopping needs in fashion, beauty, food, drinks, and beyond.
