Porlammin

Porlammin Dairy was founded in 1914 by the local farmers and it's owned by our own milk producers. 

After the second world war we started to produce different kind of matured emmental and other types of cheeses. In 2016 we started to produce vegan cheeses first to the Finnish market and 2018 we started to export to the rest of Scandinavia. In year 2020 we started to export also to the European market.  

Today we are the oldest cheesemaker still operating in southern Finland.

Pursuit of Zero Carbon Footprint: Porlammi Dairy has a goal: Safe food produced safely – but also carbon neutrally – by the year 2035. In 2020, we started a pilot in Porlammi Dairy by introducing our own solar plant, which produces electricity for our own needs. Solar power fits our conditions perfectly: the cold chain of safe food production starts from our premises, and at times when we require most energy to sustain it, like during hot and sunny summer days, there is abundance of solar energy available to harvest. The results of the pilot and gained experience will help us decide how to harness renewable energy resources even further. If the pilot succeeds as planned and the investments seem economically sound, in 5 years time our dairy may produce 300-500 kWp.
