Johann Jakob Schamel was the first to come up with the idea to put freshly grated horseradish into small glass jars, saving his customers the tearful work of grating the bitingly sharp root. Just like in those old days Schamel, which is located in the traditional horseradish town of Baiersdorf, still grates handpicked harvest-fresh horseradish roots every day coming from its contract farmers. After grating the horseradish is prepared according to the closely-guarded original secret recipe.
