In the financial year 2011/ 2012 that ended on April 30th, 2012, the WAWI group achieved an increase in sales of 11 % globally, a total of 15,000 tons of sweets have been manufactured. Through further rationalization the total amount of employees dropped to 550 at nine locations on four continents.
WAWI-Euro, responsible for the German market and export to the European countries, was able to achieve a 4 % increase. Main items are the brands WAWI Schoko-Reis, Schoko-Wölkchen, as well as the classic brands Nappo and Moritz Icy squares. Production sites for these items are Pirmasens/ Germany and Kempen/Germany. A double digit increase has been achieved with seasonal items such as Easter rabbits, Santa’s and Advent Calendars. Wawi manufactures over 20 million of Advent calendars in six factories on four continents. These are not only limited to kids products but also for adults. For five years now the sexy X-Mas calendars for women and men with changing designs make for a special sweet surprise in the pre-Christmas season.
More and more popular is the factory outlet in Pirmasens, with a rising number of visitors, sales had been increased by almost 5 %. In the future the range will be expanded by additional freshly produced WAWI items. Successful items will consequently be marketed more intensively at regional retailers.
In the European countries WAWI has expanded the Rumanian factory in Satu Mare. At the moment a new warehouse is being build adjacent to the factory building. The investment so far is over Euro 5 Million. The manufacturing is mainly for very labor intensive articles such as decorated/ painted seasonal items. At Fuchs & Hoffmann, WAWI holds minority shares of 25.1 %. The company manufactured 35,000 tons of the finest chocolate, couverture and liquid Chocolate in the 2011 calendar year.
WAWI also holds a minority position in the "High End Sector" at Confiserie Coppeneur et Compagnon GmbH in Bad Honnef at which Oliver Coppeneur manufactures premium pralines and Grand Cru Chocolate bars.
Abroad WAWI had an increase of 18 % at the plant in China. Very successful was the Australian plant with an increase in sales of 61%. Down under the consumers very much appreciate locally manufactured Chocolate specialties.
In Canada WAWI produces advent calendars and hollow figurines in a joint venture with Regal Confections. Regal Confections is a distributor for Canadian and International Sweets and Candies. Sales are above Can $ 100 million. Since December 01, 2011 the WAWI group also holds a minority shareholder position in Regal Confections.
