Organic Camelina Oil
€ Core price
French camelina seeds constitute the precious raw material of our BIO PLANÈTE Camelina Oil. Since camelina oil is being extracted from the seeds by the especially gentle process of first cold pressing, it is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3 fatty acids. Also known as “gold of pleasure” or in France as “Sésame d’Allemagne”, camelina as a base for oil production can be traced back to the Celts. Around the end of the 19th century, the plant nearly fell into oblivion, and it has experienced its well-deserved revival not until the recent years. Botanically speaking, camelina sativa as a member of the cruciferous family is not to be confused with flax (linum), the latter belonging to the linaceae family. In agricultural science, camelina plays a prominent role, as the robust plant is frequently being cultivated among other crops such as lentils, grain or peas. Due to camelina’s resistance to pests and diseases and its excellent qualities as a shrub, leaving little room for weeds, camelina enjoys a high popularity in organic farming. The seeds we process for our camelina oil originate from the regions Burgundy, Poitou-Charentes, and Normandy, from three agricultural cooperatives strictly devoted to certified organic farming. With our commitment BIO & FAIR, we make a contribution to fair trade in far-away countries, but at the same time we actively support the development of organic agriculture in France.
