Organic Camelina Oil

French came­lina seeds con­sti­tute the pre­cious raw mate­rial of our BIO PLANÈTE Came­lina Oil. Since came­lina oil is being extracted from the seeds by the espe­ci­ally gentle pro­cess of first cold pres­sing, it is excep­tio­nally rich in essen­tial fatty acids, par­ti­cu­larly omega-3 fatty acids. Also known as “gold of plea­sure” or in France as “Sé­same d’Alle­magne”, came­lina as a base for oil pro­duc­tion can be traced back to the Celts. Around the end of the 19th cen­tury, the plant nearly fell into obli­vion, and it has expe­ri­enced its well-deserved revival not until the recent years. Bota­ni­cally spea­king, came­lina sativa as a member of the cru­ci­ferous family is not to be con­fused with flax (linum), the latter belon­ging to the linaceae family. In agri­cul­tural science, came­lina plays a pro­mi­nent role, as the robust plant is fre­quently being cul­ti­vated among other crops such as len­tils, grain or peas. Due to came­lina’s resi­stance to pests and diseases and its excel­lent qua­li­ties as a shrub, lea­ving little room for weeds, came­lina enjoys a high popu­la­rity in organic far­ming. The seeds we pro­cess for our came­lina oil ori­gi­nate from the regions Bur­gundy, Poitou-Cha­rentes, and Nor­mandy, from three agri­cul­tural coope­ra­tives strictly devoted to cer­ti­fied organic far­ming. With our com­mit­ment BIO & FAIR, we make a con­tri­bu­tion to fair trade in far-away coun­tries, but at the same time we actively sup­port the deve­lop­ment of organic agri­cul­ture in France.
