The pumpkin is the largest fruit of the plant world. Botanically speaking, the pumpkin is a berry because the seeds are located within the fruit. Those of the Steyr pumpkin are espe­cially large, with a fine flavour.

It takes the seeds of 30 to 50 pump­kins to make one litre of pump­kin­seed oil.

The seeds of the Steyr pumpkin are cleansed in clear water in the tra­di­tional way, before being gently roasted at 70° C. The seed shells are rich in chloro­phyll and carotene, which gives the oil its lumi­nes­cent, deep red­dish-green colour. Pumpkinseed oil has a pro­nounced flavour of its own, with a deli­ciously fruity, slightly tart aroma.

This oil adds a cer­tain ’je-ne-sais-quoi’ to even the sim­plest of dishes.
