Sfoglia allo Zafferano
€ Low price
The Crocus Sativus is a very rare herbaceous plant whose flowers have little red-coloured stamens called Saffron: these stamens have a penetrating scent and a very distinctive taste. Ancient Greek mythology attributed the origin of saffron to the nymph Smilax: Hermes, the god of love, was jealous of Crocus and he transformed the nymph into the evergreen jew tree and her passionate lover Crocus into the saffron plant. What is certain is that ancient Egyptian physicians used it in the preparation of medicinal drugs, whereas in ancient Rome it was also used as a precious spice in cooking. This “Saffron pasta” is made from durum wheat flour, eggs and saffron stamens, and is an age-old speciality of Abruzzo, where finest saffron is gathered.
