Domaine De Malavieille-Le Mas De Bertrand

The Malavieille property was given by Monsieur De Thémine to his farmer Flucran Reynes when he had to flee the country for Lousiana in 1793 to escape the French Revolution. Fulcran and his wife Zénobie challenged this unwelcoming soil to cultivate the vineyard. Later, they handed it down to their grand-daughter Cécile Vigné, married to Monsieur Lacas. She had to fight against phylloxera. The current owner is her descendant, Mireille Lacas-Bertrand whose her goal is to make a type of wine which honours the land it is made from. At the same time, the Bertrand family run and make wine on the Saint Saturnin de Lucian and Montpeyroux vineyards. The latter was created by Juliette, Monsieur Bertrand’s grandmother who, after WWI grafted the Carignan Bleu which is still cultivated today out of respect for Juliette’s courage and self-abnegation.
