PHARMACOLOGY/RESEARCH
Organic Cranberry:
Cranberries (and blueberries) contain a variety of different antioxidant compounds, including anthocyanins, flavonols, terpenes, hydroxycinnamic and hydroxybenzoic acids, resveratrol and some vitamins and minerals. There have been studies that have examined some of these antioxidants to see if they have an impact on E.coli.,the bacteria that causes approximately 80% urinary tract infections in the community. Cranberry does not demonstrate a bactericidal effect ( i.e does not kill bacteria directly), but appears to work by preventing the adhesion of pathogenic strains of E Coli to the surface cells of the bladder and urethra (uroepithelium) and thereby reduce colonisation and progression to invasive infection. There is in vitro evidence that some of the proanthocyanidin polymers in cranberries are responsible for this activity.
It is important to note that while these studies were promising, they were not powered to demonstrate whether cranberry could treat urinary tract infections. Other evidence of some clinical studies on cranberries and urinary tract infections from the 1960s, showed that women who drank cranberry juice had fewer bacteria in their urine and a reduction in symptoms. The study however provides limited evidence as there was no placebo or control group. A further study, published in 2001, compared recurrence of urinary tract infections in women who drank a combination of lingonberry and cranberry juice with a control group who had no intervention. The results were positive for the active group.
In a 2016 year-long study of 147 women living in nursing homes, taking two daily cranberry capsules decreased bacteria levels in their urine in the first 6 months of the study and a 2012 research review of 13 clinical trials suggested that cranberry may help reduce the risk of UTIs in certain groups, including women with recurrent UTIs, children, and people who use cranberry-containing products more than twice daily. Cranberry, however, has not been shown to be effective as a treatment for an existing UTI, though there is some evidence to imply a reduced severity of symptoms in some people taking cranberry.
In October 2017 a systematic review and meta-analyses of the effect of cranberry on reducing the risk of UTI recurrence in otherwise healthy women was published in the Journal of Nutrition (American Society of Nutrition). With a collective dataset of 1495 patients, the results showed a 26% risk reduction of recurrent UTI and the review concluded that cranberry may be effective in preventing UTI recurrence in otherwise healthy women, though larger studies would be needed to confirm findings.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE One Organic Cranberry 400mg capsule three times a day. Recommended to be used in conjunction with D-Mannose. The capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water to support a healthy urinary tract.

Hawthorn is a fine heart and circulatory tonic. Parts Used: Dried leaf and volatile oil. Constituents: Volatile oil (including menthol), sequiterpenes, flavonoids, phenolic acids, riterpenes. Actions: Spasmolytic, carminative, antemetic. Locally antiseptic and analgesic. Indication: Common cold. Applications: As a nervine it acts as a tonic in anxiety and tension. Peppermints antemetic action promotes sweating in fevers and influenza.
NOTE: The product can be taken with Ekinalife, a traditional medicinal product used to relieve the symptoms of common cold and Influenza type infections, based on traditional use.

A bulking herb with high levels of fibre which becomes gelatinous with liquid.

Raspberry leaf has a long tradition of use during the last trimester of pregnancy to strengthen and tone the uterine and pelvic muscles, and then during labour to assist contractions and to check haemorrhage. It is believed that the alkaloid fragarine is responsible for this action. High doses should be avoided during the early stages of pregnancy as raspberry leaf can stimulate uterine contractions. Rich in nutrients, it can also enrich and encourage the flow of breast milk.
Raspberry leaf contains high amounts of tannins so the resulting astringent action make it a beneficial herb in the treatment of heavy or irregular periods as well as diarrhoea and irritable bowel conditions. The calcium and magnesium content of the leaves may also help alleviate muscle spasms and PMS cramps. HABITAT AND CULTIVATION Fennel is an aniseed-flavoured perennial herb indigenous to Europe and cultivated in India, China and Egypt. It contains volatile oils, flavonoids including rutin and quercetin, as well as coumarins, phytosterols, fixed oils and sugars. Both fennel seeds and bulbs are commonly used in cooking in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia.
INDICATIONS Fennel seed has a long traditional use by herbalists in the treatment of indigestion and colic as well as menstrual and menopausal symptoms. It is primarily used in the treatment of mild complaints such as flatulence and colic in children, and indigestion, bloating and heartburn in adults. It helps to stimulate the appetite and to soothe the digestion, and has been shown to be effective against Candida. It is also used to treat upper respiratory catarrh and has a calming effect on bronchitis and coughs. Fennel may be taken as a tea, particularly when treating children, but is also available in convenient capsule form.
The phytosterol component of fennel has long shown it to be a useful herb for the treatment of premenstrual symptoms such as cramping, bloating, irritability and other symptoms due in part to fluctuating levels of oestrogen. It can help induce menstruation in amenorrhoea, and is also a well-known means of promoting the flow of breast milk in nursing mothers.
PHARMACOLOGY/RESEARCH A recent clinical trial undertaken by researchers in Iran has demonstrated that Fennel is also a safe and effective treatment for many distressing menopausal symptoms. During menopause, women are often offered Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that HRT is not without risk with a slight increase in the incidence of heart attack, stroke and breast cancer.
This new trial revealed a significant reduction in the severity of symptoms such as mood swings, vaginal dryness, joint pain, sleep problems, anxiety, depression and hot flushes in those women prescribed Fennel capsules compared with the group given a placebo, and the participants reported no adverse effects.

Wormwood is a perennial shrub growing up to three feet tall, a native of temperate regions of Europe and North Africa. The leaves are used medicinally. Its active constituents include sesquiterpene lactones, volatile oil, phenolic acids and tannins.
The high bitter component of wormwood stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes thereby improving the appetite and increasing the efficiency of food digestion and absorption. It can also help to alleviate nausea, travel sickness and flatulence, reduce bloating, and is an effective tonic for the digestive system after illness. The sesquiterpene component of the herb is strongly insecticidal and may be used as an insect repellent. As its name suggests, Wormwood is an effective treatment for intestinal worms and other micro-organisms.
