When the Moa Brewery was built it was plonked between the vines in the world famous winemaking region of Marlborough, New Zealand, which isn’t surprising considering the founder of Moa, Josh Scott, is a winemaker and according to him, “It takes a lot of beer to make a good wine”. Conveniently, it’s quite a nice place to live and provides the perfect environment for brewing.
The name “Moa” (New Zealand’s giant dinosaur bird) also derives from the region, as in the early days Josh hand delivered brews to archaeologists working a Moa bone dig near the brewery. Even half-drunk they found some Moa bones, so archaeology can’t be that hard.
Moa Beer itself is brewed using traditional costly, inefficient and labour intensive techniques, with a focus on local ingredients, including internationally renowned New Zealand hops. It is rounded off through the use of winemaking techniques, like barrel ageing and bottle fermentation and conditioning (like they do with Champagne).
We could go out tomorrow and buy the same robots and machines that other breweries use instead of people. Machines that make beer syrup and inject fizz, machines that pump out 1,000 bottles a minute and zoom down those cool conveyers. But instead we invite grief into our lives by brewing the way beer used to be brewed 100 years ago.
We have won awards all over the world by brewing this way and have even heard people from far away places like Singapore, Oregon, Antarctica and Auckland exclaim, “Finally, something drinkable from Marlborough”.

The Bocelli winery, in collaboration with the Pharmacy department of the University of Pisa, embarks on an analysis of the pomace produced by its own winery and the outcome of the investigation is absolutely incredible. The content in antioxidant substances, represented by bioflavonoids and polyphenols, found in the pomace is such as to be able to consider the pomace itself a real source of youth.
Starting from a raw material considered up to now a waste product it is possible to obtain an extremely precious result.
Thus, combining innovation and tradition, from the Tuscan excellence comes LAJATICA, the cosmetic line that, by listening to nature, discovers well-being, health and beauty.
From the pomace coming from the vines of the Bocelli family, located in Lajatico, in the province of Pisa, a phyto-complex called LAJATICOMPLEX is obtained.
Lajaticomplex is the complex of all the active principles, primary and secondary, contained in the skin and seeds of the grapes.
Characterized by the content of extract of pomace and not for the use of wine, LAJATICA is not included in the category of so-called wine-therapy cosmetics; it is instead defined as highly functionalized Eno-cosmetics.
Unlike classical wine-therapy, where the function of cosmetics is carried out by some individual active ingredients isolated from wine or grapes, Lajatica uses the entire complex of substances contained in pomace.
It is the synergy of all the substances extracted that give Lajatica products an unparalleled antioxidant power.
All Lajatica products carry out a strong antioxidant, and therefore anti-aging action, as oxidation is the cause of all the processes of tissue aging.
Lajatica is the first line of highly functional Enocosmesis, made in the agricultural sector in all its production phases, from the cultivation of the vines, to the harvest, to the transformation into a cosmetic laboratory up to the production of packaged products.
Lajatica is a Km0 product, where the production of cosmetics on site allows the pomace to be sourced within a few hours of harvest. The rapid forfeiture phase allows the pomace to be processed before the development of alcoholic fermentation, avoiding the alteration of the active ingredients.
