In the late 1940s, Giovanni shipped red wine around Australia, sating the thirst of Italian migrant communities. Barrels of Patritti red wine could be found as far away has Coober Pedy and the Queensland cane fields.

REGION

McLaren Vale enjoys a reputation for producing high quality Shiraz and Grenache along with some alternative varietals from Italy and Spain. Elevation peaks at 350 metres along the Sellicks foothills with these vineyards influenced by the cooler gully winds making them ideal for white wine and cooler climate varieties. Majority of vineyards are located on gently undulating land with strong coastal influences. The Mediterranean climate is characterised by moderate winters, warm summers and predictable winter rainfall.

TASTING COMMENTS

Deep purple in colour with a bright violet hue. A powerful nose of plum, blue fruits and black forest cake work with notes of vanillin from the American oak. The wine is mouth coating and round; rich flavours of plum and raspberry are abundant. Textural tannins provide balance and length to the finish.

This premium sparkling wine is an alluring dark garnet colour. The bouquet is red fruits, blackcurrant and fruit pastilles with vanillin oak adding complexity. A fresh and vibrant palate of raspberry and blackcurrant with a toasty undertone is supported by a fine persistent bead before a refreshingly dry finish.

Shiraz is commonly known as Australia’s most prominent and highly regarded red wine variety. This wine is deep ruby red in colour. The nose displays fruit aromas of plum, blackcurrant and raspberry. These flavours continue onto the soft and smooth palate. Subtle oak characters of chocolate and spice have helped to create a wine of great balance.

Chardonnay is Australia’s most widely planted white grape variety. This wine has a bright golden straw colour. The wine’s aroma shows white peach and nectarine, these characters combine on the palate with cashew notes and balanced, crisp acidity.

Between 1872 and 1883, Bosun Bill was illegally serving numerous plantations along the Albert River in Queensland, on a floating moonshine still. In 1884 John Davy & Frank Gooding purchased the still and established the Beenleigh Artisan Distillery which today still stands in the same location.
