The Story: Lord Ian Botham and Bob Willis are two of the biggest names in the modern era of world cricket. Geoff Merrill’s reputation on the International stage of winemaking is equally impressive.
A mutual passion for their respective professions, cricket and wine, drew them together during the English tour of Australia in 1978. Since then a lasting friendship has developed over many bottles opened and balls bowled.
Vintage Information: The 2013 vintage was a welcome return to a fairly normal vintage with good winter and spring rains and only a small reduction in yield across a few varieties.
The ripening period had a small heat hiccup but the vines made it through unscathed and ripening continued extremely well enabling us to pick at full flavour ripeness.
Winemakers Notes: The colour has great depth and youthful hues. Blending of both Coonawarra and McLaren Vale Cabernet brings the best from each region. The Coonawarra component adding perfume, capsicum and bright red berries on the nose with fine tannin and good acidity to the palate.
Chocolate, dark fruits, savoury notes and richness and depth on the palate are delivered by the McLaren Vale Cabernet. The blend is complex and harmonious producing a wine which is undeniably Cabernet both on the aroma and palate.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with slow cooked beef, lamb, lasagne and mushrooms.
Winemakers: Geoff Merrill & Scott Heidrich
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Coonawarra 52% / McLaren Vale 48%
Harvest Date: March / April 2013

A mutual passion for their respective professions, cricket and wine, drew them together during the English tour of Australia in 1978. Since then a lasting friendship has developed over many bottles opened and balls bowled.
Vintage Information: One of the earliest vintages on record this year, with mild weather playing an important role for the region. Rainfall was lower than average and dry conditions from early August, supplementary irrigation was vital.
With only a few sporadic hot days, the weather allowed natural acids with low pH levels to develop. Yields had fallen just below average, however this varied depending on variety. Overall 2015 was a successful vintage.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a dense ruby red with brick red hues. Savoury tones present first on the aroma, opening up to warm, ripe red berry fruits and spices with subtle hints of oak.
Initially the palate is soft and fine, building into a well structured and full flavoured wine. An abundance of silky tannins adds depth and longevity to the well defined fruit flavours.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with your favourite red meat dishes. Anything from lamb chops to pizza.

The Story: “Named after our company owned vineyard in the Coonawarra. The Graymoor Vineyard was planted in 1988 and covers approx. 68 acres. Famous for its iconic ‘Terra Rossa’ soil and cool climate growing conditions, the Coonawarra is the ideal location for us to produce high-quality Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.” - Geoff Merrill
Vintage Information: In the Coonawarra, vintage 2016 commenced quite early, with a warmer than usual Spring advancing the whole season and harvest dates arriving a couple of weeks early. Pre-Christmas temperatures were warm which was ideal, with yields seeing a slight increase on some previous years.
Post-Christmas temperatures were milder with the combination of warm days and cold nights extended the ripening period while delivering very promising fruit across all varietals. Overall 2016 was another very good vintage.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a very dark red with good depth and youthful bright red hues. The aroma shows ripe regional and varietal characters of roast red capsicum, mulberry, black currant, spice and hints of tomato leaf. Complementary oak characters of spice, toast and nuts adds depth and complexity to this complex wine.
The palate initially displays Coonawarra's characteristic length and acidity, then begins to relax and show it's generous depth of flavour and finely textured tannins. Blue fruits, spice and herbaceous flavours are complemented by subtle toasty, nutty oak. Give this wine some time to open up in the glass and see it grow.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with rich red meat dishes, hard cheese, wood oven pizza and strong Italian pasta.
Winemakers: Geoff Merrill & Scott Heidrich
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

The Story: “When I purchased the Mount Hurtle winery in 1985 it was to preserve a small piece of Australia’s winemaking history. Today the winery is an oasis among suburbia, nestled in 4 acres of vineyards and landscaped gardens and has retained an almost Tuscan charm.” - Geoff Merrill
Vintage Information: The 2014 vintage started out with a wet winter in 2013 with higher than average rainfall which then essentially ceased for the months following. An unexpected burst of heat through spring lead to flowering early. Low rainfall and extremely high temperatures then continued throughout summer.
Immediately following the high temperatures was some cool weather and a large rain event which slowed down ripening, causing quite a gap in vintage. Top wines will be exciting, well balanced acidity and full flavoured with good tannins.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a bright, dark red, developing some brick red hues. The aroma shows an initial herb and spice note which then reveals an inviting cherry ripe and red berry fruit character. A hint of toasty vanilla oak complements this classic McLaren Vale Shiraz nose.
The palate is juicy and delicious. It is smooth and seamless over the whole length and finishes on a warm and fruity note. The tannins are fine and in balance, and the acidity keeps everything together, ensuring longevity and broad food matching potential.
Food Pairing: Enjoy it with BBQ lamb chops, slow cooked lamb shanks, burgers, pizza and shepherds pie.

Vintage Information: McLaren Vale had one of the earliest vintages on record this year, with mild weather playing an important role for the region; rainfall was lower than average and with dry conditions from early August meant supplementary irrigation was vital.
With only a few sporadic hot days, the weather allowed natural acids with low pH levels to develop. Yields had fallen just below average, however this varied depending on variety. Overall 2015 was a successful vintage.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a dark red with good depth and clarity. Unmistakably Cabernet on the nose, this wine displays capsicum, red berries, dark chocolate, beetroot and black olive.
Wow, put this one away! A tight line of fantastic acidity runs through this wine like a pencil lead. Enhancing the herbaceous Cabernet flavours and drawing them out over the length of the palate. The Merlot is doing a fine job of adding ripeness and depth to this long and intense Cabernet blend.
Food Pairing: If I had to drink it now, (rather than wait a few years) I'd have it with beef cheeks, lamb shanks, osso bucco, or a chunky steak pie from Home Grain Bakery.

Vintage Information: Preceding winter and spring rains were significantly lower than had been previously reducing crop potential in the important growth stages leading up to vintage. On average yields were down approximately 30% across many varieties in McLaren Vale.
With fluctuating temperatures in January and rainfalls in February resulted in a pause in vintage allowing ripening to occur at a more manageable rate. By the end of vintage, even with the lower crop yields, our fruit had more time to ripen properly resulting in very good flavour concentration, acidity and structure.
Winemakers Notes: The colour is a deep red with bright ruby hues. The aroma immediately speaks McLaren Vale, with chocolate, spice and mulberry fruits coming through first, followed by savoury meats, dried herbs and plum notes.
On the palate, bright clean red berry fruits come forward, slowly revealing a firm, fine tannin structure. With time in the glass, the wine relaxes and begins to show its subtleties and nuances that will continue to develop over the next few years.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with lamb shanks, BBQ lamb chops, Angus steak, chunky steak pie, BBQ beef skewers and medium hard cheese.

Fortified Wine
Brand
Bleasdale has a long history of producing fortified wines and thanks to the foresight of previous winemakers, some pretty good stocks.
One of the main features of Bleasdale fortified wines is the maturation conditions. Langhorne Creek is quite a cool maritime climate, which helps retain freshness and acidity in the grapes as well as maturing wines.
Old oak barrels are stashed high into the rafters under the hot tin roof to encourage evaporation and concentration, but Langhorne Creek is significantly cooler than many other traditional fortified regions so freshness is largely retained.
This Grand Tawny is Grenache dominant, but is blended with Shiraz, Verdelho, Mataro and Tinta Roriz. This wine is blended to a minimum age of 7 years and has great spice with brandy snap and chocolate character with freshness and drinkability.

This is the great Australian red blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Malbec. The wine displays plum, blackcurrant, chocolate and boysenberry spice. A juicy palate with persistent flavour and smooth velvety tannins. Enjoy with a summer BBQ or slow cooked dishes.

The majestic red gums that surround Bleasdale are at the core of our remarkable history. When Frank Potts settled the land in the 1850s, he used the timber from these big, beautiful trees to build our winery. Our vineyards benefit from the rich, clay soils that also support these gums, giving generosity and longevity to our wines. The growth rings reflect the multitude of stories from past seasons and generations of family and growers alike.
Shiraz was the first red grape variety planted in Langhorne Creek at Bleasdale in 1858. This wine shows flavours of ripe plums and other dark berries, layered with liquorice, pepper and fresh spices. Drinking well now, but with the potential to be a long term cellaring prospect if desired. Lightly fined and racked before bottling without filtration, it is normal for some sediment to form. Decanting one hour before drinking is recommended.

Our Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris grapes are grown by specialist Adelaide Hills growers. The fruit is handpicked directly into a refrigerated container where it is cooled all day, then delivered to the historic Bleasdale cellars at dusk for whole bunch pressing in the cool of the evening.
This delicate wine shows all the spice and perfume we expect from cool climate Pinot Gris. Nashi, ginger and rosewater perfume leads to a generous and textured palate with nutty complexity from the barrel ferment component. A satisfying yet moreish wine, textured and complex middle palate, with a hint of sweetness to complement spicy foods.

Frank Potts was not a man given to procrastination. He simply rolled up his sleeves and got the job done. At age nine, Frank joined the British Royal Navy, and by the time he arrived in South Australia in 1836, he had sailed the globe. After purchasing land on the Bremer River, Frank himself cleared it of red gums, planted vineyards, and then used the timber to build his winery. Six generations on, it is his work ethic and enduring legacy that drives everyone at Bleasdale.
This wine is layered and complex with red berry and darker fruit aromas. These characters continue onto the palate, with fruit layers supported by fine oak tannin and lively berry persistence. It is normal for some sediment to form; decanting one - two hours prior to drinking is recommended. Enjoyed in its youth, or cellar for 10-20 years.

When Frank Potts established Bleasdale on the Langhorne Creek floodplain in 1850, he built a system of locks and weirs to capture and use floodwaters from the Bremer River to irrigate his vines. Many of Langhorne Creek’s vineyards, including Bleasdale’s Bremerview vineyard, still rely on his original flood irrigation system that comes into operation when the river naturally overflows to the vineyards planted along its banks.
A true expression of Langhorne Creek Shiraz, this is a medium bodied wine showing intense lifted spice aromas and dark berry fruit. The palate is long and silky with fine tannins, offering juicy plum and blackberry fruits, with notes of clove and pepper.

Bleasdale continues its long history of producing high quality blended wines. Grenache and Shiraz were originally grown in Langhorne Creek for fortified winemaking but are proving to be excellent for table wine. Nurtured from small parcels into a vibrant, delicious drink.
Crimson red wine with cherry and blackberry fruits supported by nutmeg, spice, white pepper and some savoury, earthy characters. A generous, opulent palate built around a core of finely textured tannins. A delicious drink in its youth, however this wine can be cellared for a number of years for those that have the patience and enjoy more savoury secondary characters.

With deep alluvial floodplains and the maritime influence of Lake Alexandrina, Langhorne Creek is home to some of Australia’s best soils and growing conditions. Frank Potts realised this when he established Bleasdale in 1850. The iconic Mulberry Tree vineyard, named after the ancient tree that grows adjacent to the vineyard on the banks of the Bremer River, consistently produces fruit of exceptional quality.
This is an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with intense aromas of mixed berries, woody herbs dark chocolate and violets. The palate is smooth and persistent, with blackcurrant and spicy oak flavours, before finishing with soft and subtle tannins.

Pinot Nero vinification (vintage 2019) begins with a maceration on the skins for 13 days at a controlled temperature of 22 C°. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature around 15-16 C°. The harvest of Glera grapes is followed by light pressing and a fermentation with selected indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. The cuvée is created, after which a second fermentation by Charmat Method in stainless steel for 120 days with selected yeasts at controlled temperature takes place.
The delicate and refined nuance comes from the red colour of Pinot Nero which is softened by the clear Glera. The perlage is fine and persistent. The Prosecco bouquet merges with the delicate hints of wild strawberries and raspberries typical of Pinot Nero. Very agreeable taste, sapid, with a fresh note of violet and wild berries.
Excellent as an aperitif, it perfectly matches gourmet finger food and fish based dishes.

This is the story of an IPA from Sweden's historical university town Uppsala. The simple malt base sets the stage for the hops that dominate bitterness, taste and aroma. Taste and aroma from tropical fruits and citrus tones comes from the hop varieties Citra and Mosaic, which interact with Simcoe's typical taste of pine needles and blood orange. An exquisite IPA for exquisite tastes

The Woodcock migrates in autumn from the plains of Siberia, where Vodka is born, to the hills of Provence. This noble game of the Provençal under-wood is well known for its flight in Ziga Zaga (zigzag in Provençal).
Traditionally, vodka was made from potatoes, some have improved it by distilling cereals. Winemakers for 12 generations, we have honoured it by choosing the grape that gives it a remarkable fineness enhanced by a light grape taste.
