El Tesoro de las Montañas means 'The Treasure of the Mountains', as the dry and dusty area gives no clues to the wonderful wine it can produce. From the region of Mendoza, this is a rich, intense and full bodied Argentinean Malbec.

Grapes are handpicked from selected vines that are over thirty years old. These old vines were "forgotten" for many years and have aged gracefully to release this treasure of a brand from the foothills of the Andes. The grapes are sourced from a family owned winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, which is considered to have the best terroir in Mendoza, for growing Malbec. Pecado white wine is our entry level range from Mendoza. In this range we blend generic wine with 10% of varietal wine. 

Exotico® is handcrafted with tradition by the Gonzalez Distillery – a family distillery spanning three generations and one of Mexico’s most respected makers of tequila.

It all begins with the Weber Blue Agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco. Here, the red clay soil produces a larger, sweeter agave heart that gives Exotico® its floral, well-rounded taste. Ever so slowly the agave plants rise, taking anywhere from 7 to 15 years to reach full maturity. Even then, only the best are chosen. Once selected, the distinct leaves are trimmed with a long-handled hoe-like tool called a “coa” leaving only the “pina” – a spherical, pineapple-shaped heart.

The hearts are steam-cooked for 16 hours in autoclave ovens to heighten their sugar content. After cooking, they’re put through a mill for what’s known as the “Molino” process where the agave is shredded into small pieces and the sweet, amber agave juice or “agua miel” is gently squeezed out. It’s this juice with its sweet, fruity aroma that will enrich the final product.

Fermentation begins with the addition of the Exotico® yeast made from a proprietary family recipe. Not all distilleries create their own yeast, but this attention to detail is what distinguishes Exotico® from ordinary tequilas.

Exotico® is then twice-distilled using traditional pot stills by the Master Distiller to obtain the richest parts of the “spirits” to produce the unique Exotico® flavor.

The exact production method of our Chantré is a closely-guarded secret, but there are a few details we can reveal:

Each year the best wines are selected to provide the perfect base for our Chantré. Our master distillers obtain a fine distillate from these wines, distilled in accordance with the 1932 wine law. The distillates are then stored: They mature for at least six months in Limousin oak barrels. During this time, they develop the typical flavor and golden brown color of our Chantré.

Fresh and rich on the palate, the wine develops the characteristics of the Savatiano grape, with the development of a piney flavour at the back of the throat. A nicely balanced, delicately flavoured retsina with a clean crisp finish.

The wine is characterised by its fruitness, its unique body, soft tannins and deep red colour. The wine is aged in French oak barriques for 6-7 months and then bottle-aged for a further 6 months. The nice balance of its fruitiness and maturation properties is particularly appealing.

A bright, clear, light straw colour with green hues running through the glass. A delicate bouquet of lemon and tropical fruit balanced by wonderful penetrating acidity on the palate.
